Membership

Please see the below message from Recruitment and Retention officer Richard Kearsey:

1. The Portsmouth Referees Society AGM is this thursday and membership is now due (see below).

2. Registration to Hampshire FA for the season 2010 - 2011 is also due by the end of this month. It is important that you get the forms back to Hampshire by the 1st June so that your details are included in the County handbook.

If you prefer not to have your details listed in the handbook just write on the form "Do not publish" your name will be listed in the Handbook but not your details.

You must register with Hampshire FA if you intend to Referee next season.

Important Note: The registration to Hampshire FA is only £15 - do not be confused by the amounts shown on the form as it suggests that the registration fee is £15 plus £15. (if you have paid £30, £15 will be reimbursed).

3. Fitness training has started again on Saturday mornings at King Georges Playing Fields, Cosham, 9.15am to 11.00am - all referees at all levels are welcome and remember "you need to be fit to Referee - do not Referee to get fit".

Membership of Portsmouth Referees Society and attendance of meetings is the best way of keeping yourself informed and up to date with developments in Refereeing, especially if you have just started out in your refereeing career or have been a Referee for a while and are not sure where you go now. We have a youth section so everybody, no matter what age or gender are always made very welcome (parents are welcome as well).

Portsmouth Society of Referees, is the local body of the National Referees Association – an organisation which meet once a month with the aim is to provide referees with relevant and up to date information and in-service training throughout the season, and it gives you a chance to meet colleagues, ask refereeing related questions and to develop your knowledge. The highlight of most meetings is the ‘problem corner’ - a chance to ask how other referees overcome interesting and unusual situations.

In addition considerable effort has been put into securing quality guest speakers, to enlighten our members to different aspects of football. We also sell referee kits, whistles, red & yellow cards, with match wallets, spare match records pads, and many more supplies, for all you’re Refereeing requirements.

There are many additional benefits of joining, apart from getting to know the other Referees you meet on the park the fee also covers you for enhanced insurance and legal advice. There are also Social Events, including Paintballing, Cricket, Golf, Ten Pin Bowling, 5 and 6-a-side football, Skittles and Greyhound racing nights throughout the year.

Please complete a membership form for the Portsmouth Referees Society (should you still need to do so) and if you can attend on Thursday please bring it with you. If you can't make this meeting please send the form to Peter Sowton as soon as possible and we will let you know the dates of next seasons meetings (starts again in August).
